Nicole and I wanted to take some time to tell you about the Swan For Life Cancer Foundation and the great work that they are doing. It was founded in 2010 by Farid Fata, M.D., a Hematologist/Oncologist who wanted to provide newly diagnosed cancer patients with a guide on what to expect for their treatment and how to cope with their illness. Some of the organization’s programs include patient and/or caregiver support groups; educational workshops on topics such as nutrition, symptoms and survivorship; and wellness programs like yoga, massage therapy and acupuncture.
On September 17, 2011, the Swan For Life Cancer Foundation held its 1st Annual Fall Fashion Show Fundraiser, “Styles, Smiles & Grace” to benefit cancer survivors in Oakland and Lapeer Counties of Michigan. The event featured fall fashions from The Buckle, Lucy, Bonnie & Clyde’s and other local boutiques. Nicole and I had the honor of putting together gift bags for all of the attendees. Many of the local shops that provided fashions for the show, also gave in-store coupons. We supplied coupons from the talented Stella & Dot stylist Trish Dewald, $25 gift certificates from Pontiac Eye Clinic, Arbonne cosmetic samples, Banana Republic Outlet coupons and more.
Although we are a shopping blog, we felt like we wanted to give back and this was a cause that meant something to both of us. Nicole’s mother is a 15 year breast cancer survivor. Mary’s brother is a brain cancer survivor from the age of 3 and she lost a dear friend to breast cancer earlier this year. Cancer has touched everyone’s lives in one way or another. You may have lost a loved one, or maybe you are a survivor or know someone who’s life has been turned upside down by a horrific cancer diagnosis. Whatever the case, it is certainly life-changing as well as life-threatening. The event was an enjoyable way to see the latest fall fashions while supporting an important cause. We included some pictures below so you could see how cute the bags turned out.
Prepping the bags a few days before the event.
The view from upstairs and along the downstairs window. The place looked great and the bright pink was so pretty!
